West Yorkshire and the West Midlands have the highest crime rates in England. According to the Office for National Statistics, Yorkshire’s Cleveland Police Station has the highest crime rate.
The ONS came to this conclusion by taking into account statistics on crimes committed at various police station limits in England and Weiss. The figures are for the year ending June 2021. The crime rate is based on the number of crimes per one lakh people.
Cleveland Police topped the list with 114.9 registered crimes per 100,000 people. From April to June, 8.3 percent of Cleveland police investigations led to case summonses or charges, according to Home Office records. During the period, 16,539 investigations were completed, but only 1,376 were taken up for further action.
West Yorkshire Police have the second-highest crime rate in the world. The crime rate is 111.6 per lakh people. Greater Manchester is next with 107.9 crimes. The West Midlands accounted for 102.9 crimes, while Merseyside committed 96.7 crimes per 1 lakh people.
Meanwhile, West Yorkshire Police have the highest number of violent crime cases. The rate of violent crime was 47.4 per 1 lakh. It was here that Star Hobson, a 16-month-old baby, was murdered. The baby was killed by the girlfriend of the child’s mother. The court later sentenced Savannah Brockhill to 25 years in prison.
The West Midlands, Cleveland, Kent and Greater Manchester are the other four places with the highest crime rates. Kent is the only region in the South that has a high crime rate.
