The standard Personal Allowance is £12,570 per year, which is the amount of income you do not have to pay tax. The table below shows the tax rates you pay in each band if you have a standard Personal Allowance of £12,570.

For example, If your annual salary is £24000, your wages will be deducted 20% for any amount you earn above £1,047.00 every month.

Marriage Allowance

Marriage Allowance lets you transfer £1,260 of your Personal Allowance to your husband, wife. This reduces their tax by up to £252 in the tax year (6 April to 5 April the next year). To benefit as a couple, you (as the lower earner) must normally have an income below your Personal Allowance(£12,570). You can backdate the claim from 5 April 2017.
